Burncourt Celtic football club was formed in August 1998.
Founding committee were as follows: Chairman: Ned Mcgrath, Treasurer: Eamon English, Secretary: Mairead English, PRO: Patrick Brett.
The main sponsorship in our first year was kindly donated by Jackie English, Mitchelstown Caves. This enabled us to get off the ground and purchase a kit and to rent a playing field. Richard Brett, a local landowner kindly offered to rent a field to us in August 1998, which the club accepted.
By the end of August the club started to play its football in the North Cork Soccer league. The club played its football in the second divison of the NCSL for six years, The high point of which was reaching the final of the Paul Griffin Memorial Cup final in April 2002, only to lose one-nil to Mitchelstown Celtic. In August of 2004 the club reached the decision to apply to play in the TS&DL.
