TSDL Players that play or have played for the Rep. of Ireland
Here is a list of players that are currently representing or have represented the Rep of Ireland at various levels that started their football career in the Tipperary Southern & District League. Should anyone have further updates or players ommited please sent it to firstname.lastname@example.org
James Walsh (St. Michael’s FC): (Defender) Debut in 2004, FAI International Junior Player 2004 and 2011. He is the first player in the Co. Tipperary to win this award twice. He is also the first TSDL player to captain his country at both Junior and Amateur level in 2006. James is the most capped amateur international male player in the country. He reached his 50th Cap in 2009 and made his 64th appearance in 2011. He was instrumental in the Rep of Ireland reaching back-to-back UEFA Regions Cup Finals in 2009 and 2011 scoring crucial goals from his central defender position. The 2011 was his fourth UEFA Regions Cup Finals where he led his country to the final for the first time securing Silver Medals. During these Finals he was also named as one of the 10 best players by the media.
Paul Breen (St. Michael’s FC): (Defender) Capped in 2006 at the heart of the Irish defence with team-mate and current Irish skipper James Walsh against Northern Ireland, San Marino, Spain, England. Paul was the Irish player of the tournament when playing in the EUFA Regions Cup qualifiers against France, Spain and Lituania in France in October 2006. Paul made over 30 apperances to date and is still playing with Irish Amateur and Junior teams having helped his country reach the UEFA Regions Cup Finals in 2009 and 2011. He was nominated for FAI Junior International player in 2007 and again in 2008. He won a Silver Medal at the 2011 UEFA Regions Cup Final in Portugal
Tony Scully (Clonmel Town): (Midfield) represent his country at the Umbro Tournament in the Isle of Man in 2008
Richard Ryan (Clonmel Town/Waterford IT): (Goalkeeper) represented the Irish Colleges team in 2007 and made debut for Irish Amateur team in March 2011
Christopher Higgins (St. Michael’s) (Defender) made debut for Irish Amateur team in March 2011 and won a Silver Medal in the 2011 UEFA Regions Cup Finals in Portugal in June 2011. He was also nominated for the FAI International Player of the Year 2012
Cyril Conran (Clonmel Town): (Defender) Co. Tipperary’s first reciepent of the prestigious FAI International Junior Player of the Year 1993 and first Co. Tipperary player to captain his country.
Michael Grace (Bansha Celtic and St. Michael’s): (Striker) is the TSDL capped at both Youth and Junior level and is a former FAI International Junior Player nominee.
Stephen O’Neill (Clonmel Town): (Goalkeeper)
Aaron Moroney (Clonmel Town and St. Michael’s): (Striker) capped in 2000 as a Clonmel Town player and 2005 as a St. Michael’s player.
Kevin Waters (Clonmel Celtic): (Winger) won international junior while a Clonmel Town player. Joined Clonmel Celtic from Waterford United in LOI.
Kelvin Flanagan (St. Michael’s): (Mid-field) won FAI Senior Cup with Cork City

* The above trio along with James Walsh became the first TSDL players from the same club to represent their country at the same time in the UEFA Regions Cup qualifiers (2003) in Finland.
Ken Ryan (Two-Mile-Borris): (Winger) Capped when playing for Peake Villa in 2001
Jimmy Carr (St. Michaels): (winger) Irish début against Scotland Amateurs in 2012
Ian Barnes (Clonmel Town): (Defender) was capped for Irish Schools team as a Peake Villa player in 2003
James O’Sullivan (Cashel Town/UCD): (Striker) ‘capped’ for his country at Schools level in 2006 and for the Irish U19 team in 2007
Michael Rafter (St. Michael’s/Two Mile Borris) (striker). Former Two Mile Borris underage player. Played for Rep of Ireland at all ages from Under 14 to 19.
Peter Acheson (Clonmel Town and Rockwell College): (Midfield) was capped for Irish Senior Schools and a member of the winning Centenary Shield team in 2008 and as a result became the first TSDL player to be nominated for the FAI Schools Player of the Year Award 2008
Evan Comerford (Clonmel Town): (Goalkeeper): Represented Rep of Ireland Senior Schools team 2011/12.
Shane Long (West Bromwich Albion ): (Striker): The former St. Michael’s and Two Mile Borris/St. Kevin’s forward became the first player from the TSDL to win a Senior International ‘cap’ for his country when picked to play against San Marino in the Euro 2008 Qualifier in San Marino on Wednesday 7th February 2007. He became the first player to play in two different codes in Croke Park, Dublin. A former Tipperary hurler played in the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Semi-Final in 2004 and came on as a substitute for the Rep of Ireland in Euro 2008 Qualifier in 2007. He is also the first Co. Tipperary player to play in the European Championship Finals in Euro 2012 in Poland
