FAI Junior Cup Round 6 Draw involving teams from the Premier County
With Clonmel Town’s taking a step nearer their goal on the ‘Road to the Aviva Stadium for this season’s FAI Junior Cup Final. This’ follows their 2-0 victory over Wexford representatives, Moyne Rangers and it is now up to our three remaining sides to complete a four-prong attack in the bid to reach the last 32 of this national competition. By the way Clonmel Town will visit the banks of the Shannon to face Limerick city kingpins Carew Park in the 6th Round in the New Year.
This coming Sunday 16 December will see the two of the remaining three sides from the Premier County in action.
Killumney Utd versus Clonmel Celtic
Clonmel Celtic will be visiting unknown territory travelling down to Cork to face AUL Premier League side Killumney United. Although not as well known as some of the other Cork sides this side have been making headlines by the Lee and they should not be underestimated. Clonmel Celtic following their excellent win over St. Michael’s will be hoping for another improved performance. Should Clonmel Celtic overcome this hurdle they will on the road again with a visit to Terenure FC (Dublin) or back to Cork to face AUL champions Park United in the New Year in the last 32.
Carrick United versus Glen Celtic B
Last but not least is 2008 winners Carrick United from Carrick-on-Suir who visit Cork to face surprise pack Glen Celtic B and would be expected to see off such opposition, but this Premier County side that are top dogs in the Waterford League will err on the side of caution. Should they overcome this opposition there will be a visit to either Regional Utd (Limerick), Tullamore FC, or Ardee Celtic (Louth) in the New Year.
Rosegreen Rangers versus Castlebar Celtic (fixed for 6th January 2013)
Rosegreen Rangers looks to have the toughest task. The Second Division minnows have to overcome the big guns of junior football from Co. Mayo; Castlebar Celtic. Rosegreen Rangers put up a dogged fight against Clonmel Celtic last week, and would love to repeat it on 6 January, with the final score in their favour. Should Rosegreen produce the shock of the round they will have to travel to face Roscommon, Ballinasloe, or Kilnamanagh FC.
All 6th Round (last 32) ties are scheduled for the weekend of the 11th/12th/13th January 2013
Commiseration must go to the three North Tipperary & District League representatives Nenagh AFC (beaten 2-0 by Pike Rovers), Thurles Town (lost 2-1 to Dublin AUL side O’Devaney/Donard), and Arra Rovers (beaten 8-0 by another Dublin AUL heavyweight St. Kevin’s Boys)
The best of luck to all Co. Tipperary sides in action this weekend.
