Wednesday 20th May 2026 – Premier Division
Peake Villa 1 – 1 St. Michaels
This was the game both teams had been waiting for, with the Premier Division title on the line. Peake Villa required just a point to secure the league, while St. Michaels needed all three points to force a playoff.
As expected, it was a tense and competitive affair with very few clear-cut chances in the opening half. Villa suffered a major setback in the 25th minute when captain Pippy Carroll was forced off through injury. St. Michaels also lost Luke Ryan and DJ Cremins during the opening period.
The visitors broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time when Denis Cremins unleashed an excellent strike into the corner of the net to give St. Michaels a 1-0 lead at the interval.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with chances limited for both sides. Villa eventually found their equaliser when Kieren Hennessy’s effort crashed off the crossbar and Ronan McGuire reacted quickest to volley home brilliantly and level the game at 1-1.
The final ten minutes were played on a knife-edge as St. Michaels pushed desperately for the winning goal they needed. However, Villa defended resolutely and held firm until the final whistle to secure the league title.
Match Verdict: A tense and dramatic title decider where Peake Villa showed resilience under pressure to claim the Premier Division crown, while St. Michaels pushed them all the way in a high-quality contest.
A tremendous home support backed Villa throughout the evening and great credit must go to Derek Loughnane, David Birmingham and David Coppinger on a fantastic season. Attention now turns to the Tipperary Cup Final next Friday in Cahir Park.
Special mention also to Dale Loughnane, currently serving on tour in Lebanon with the Army. Dale played a huge role throughout Villa’s title-winning campaign.
Wednesday 20th May 2026 – Division 1 Shield Semi-Finals
Two Mile Borris (B) 3 – 1 Ballingarry
Two Mile Borris booked their place in the Division 1 Shield Final following a hard-fought victory over Ballingarry.
Borris opened the scoring after 20 minutes when DJ Troy produced a superb volley following an excellent move. Ballingarry responded strongly and levelled the game ten minutes before half-time with a superbly struck free kick.
The home side regained the lead on 65 minutes when Tristan Troy finished from a dangerous Jack Delaney delivery. Ballingarry pushed hard for another equaliser, but Borris goalkeeper Puddin Maher produced several excellent interventions and handled everything confidently.
Michael McCarthy sealed the victory in the closing stages with a well-taken finish following a quick counterattack. It was a tremendous team effort from Borris, who were backed by excellent support throughout.
Match Verdict: Two Mile Borris combined discipline, strong goalkeeping and clinical finishing to edge a very competitive semi-final and deservedly book their place in the final.
Bansha Celtic 3 – 0 Galbally
Bansha Celtic produced an impressive display to comfortably overcome Galbally.
Darren McGrath opened the scoring after 15 minutes when he raced clear and finished low to the keeper’s left. Five minutes later, Eamon Quirke doubled the advantage after another incisive passing move.
Bansha made it 3-0 before half-time when Jack Crowe finished confidently following a quick counterattack.
Galbally came out strongly in the second half and forced the Bansha goalkeeper into two excellent saves, but they could not find the goal needed to get back into the game. Bansha nearly added a fourth when a free kick struck the crossbar before comfortably seeing out the remainder of the contest.
Match Verdict: An efficient and commanding display from Bansha Celtic, who punished their chances early and controlled the game from start to finish.
Thursday 21st May 2026 – Division 3
St. Michaels (B) 0 – 1 Donohill
Donohill secured promotion to Division Two following a narrow but valuable victory at the Complex.
The decisive goal arrived after just seven minutes when Joey Shanahan broke through the Saints defence and finished from close range.
St. Michaels responded positively and created several opportunities throughout the first half. Alfie O’Halloran and Colm Langley both went close, while the home side were awarded a penalty midway through the half. Mikey Bowes initially converted the kick, but it had been taken before the referee’s whistle and the retake struck the post.
Bowes later saw a flicked header saved, while Alex Webster also tested the Donohill goalkeeper before the break.
The second half remained competitive, with Bradley McNabb producing a fine save from Seanie Ryan. Donohill continued to pose a threat through Shanahan, while Saints enjoyed a strong spell after the introduction of Donagh Guilfoyle.
Despite their efforts, St. Michaels could not break down a determined Donohill defence as the visitors held on to secure promotion.
Match Verdict: Donohill showed determination and defensive strength when it mattered most, securing a valuable win and promotion to Division Two.
Friday 22nd May 2026 – Division 2 Shield Final
Cahir Park (B) 4 – 0 Mullinahone
Cahir Park claimed the Division 2 Shield title with a clinical second-half performance against Mullinahone.
The opening stages were cautious, with Mullinahone controlling possession in midfield without seriously testing Marc Cagney in goal. Cahir looked dangerous on the counterattack and eventually took the lead on 37 minutes when Kenny Cunningham was played through on the left before finishing low into the corner.
Mullinahone came close to an equaliser before the break, but Cagney produced an important save.
Cahir started the second half strongly and doubled their advantage on 50 minutes when Hichem Birem’s shot was parried into the path of David Halpin, who finished from close range.
Just two minutes later, Halpin flicked on a corner for captain Darragh Conway to power home a header and make it 3-0.
Mullinahone continued to battle and forced another excellent save from Cagney before having a goal ruled out for offside. John O’Regan completed the scoring on 82 minutes with a composed finish from 12 yards.
While the scoreline may have been harsh on Mullinahone, Cahir Park were deserved winners on the day.
Match Verdict: Cahir Park’s sharp finishing and strong second-half performance proved decisive as they secured the Division 2 Shield title in style.
Saturday 23rd May 2026 – FAI Junior Cup 5th Round
St. Michaels 0 – 3 Fairview Rangers
FAI Junior Cup holders Fairview Rangers advanced to the last 16 with a composed victory over St. Michaels in Cooke Park.
St. Michaels suffered an early setback when captain Jimmy Carr was forced off injured in the opening minutes.
Fairview took the lead after 12 minutes when Jeffrey Judge capitalised on a dangerous Dara Rainsford cross to score from close range. The visitors dominated possession and impressed with their sharp passing and movement.
Shane Duggan doubled the advantage on 31 minutes when he finished neatly from Brian Ahern’s pass.
St. Michaels battled hard and Faolan Doyle made several excellent saves to keep his side in contention. Willie Armshaw’s free kick delivery nearly created a goal for Cian Fadden early in the second half, while Denis Cremins defended superbly throughout.
Fairview wrapped up the victory on 67 minutes when Dara Rainsford blocked Doyle’s clearance and rolled the ball into an empty net.
Both sides used their benches during the closing stages, but Fairview comfortably saw out the game to progress.
Match Verdict: Fairview Rangers demonstrated why they are cup holders with a composed and professional performance against a battling St. Michaels side.
Saturday 23rd May 2026 – Division 2 Relegation Round Robin
Suirside 0 – 0 Old Bridge
This Division 2 playoff encounter had the atmosphere of a cup final, with both teams battling intensely throughout.
Old Bridge started brightly, with Alex Green lively in attack, though their final ball let them down. Suirside gradually grew into the contest and nearly took the lead on 15 minutes when Kyle Ryan’s superb volley was brilliantly saved.
Scott Lonergan also went close for the home side before Old Bridge enjoyed a strong spell before half-time. Suirside goalkeeper Nigel Carberry produced two excellent saves to keep the game scoreless.
The second half continued at a high tempo. Andrew Brown came close for Suirside on 58 minutes, while Carberry again denied Old Bridge with two more outstanding saves.
Both teams pushed hard for a winner during the closing stages, but strong defending and poor final passes ensured the match ended goalless. Overall, a draw was probably a fair result in a highly competitive and sporting encounter.
Match Verdict: A fiercely contested relegation playoff where both defences stood strong, leaving honours even after an intense battle.
Sunday 24th May 2026 – Premier League Shield Final
Peake Villa 0 – 1 Two Mile Borris
Two Mile Borris claimed the Premier League Shield following a narrow victory over Peake Villa.
There was little between the sides throughout a tightly contested opening half, which ended scoreless.
The game became more open after the break, with Villa creating several promising chances. However, the decisive moment arrived in the 85th minute when Lewis Carney found the net for Borris.
Villa had a late opportunity to force extra time when they were awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time, but Ronan McGuire’s effort sailed over the bar.
Match Verdict: A tightly contested final settled by one decisive moment, with Two Mile Borris showing great composure to lift the shield.
Sunday 24th May 2026 – Division 1 Shield Final
Two Mile Borris (B) 0 – 4 Bansha Celtic
Bansha Celtic produced an outstanding performance to comfortably win the Division 1 Shield Final.
Darren McGrath opened the scoring after 12 minutes with a superb free kick before Owen Halpin doubled the advantage with an excellent volley on 20 minutes.
Kevin Mullin added a third from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark to give Bansha a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time.
Jack Crowe completed the scoring in the second half as Bansha sealed an impressive 4-0 victory.
Match Verdict: Bansha Celtic produced a dominant final performance, combining attacking quality and defensive control to comfortably claim silverware.
