Cullen Lattin 2-3 Galbally

The West Tipperary derby between Cullen and Galbally produced a dramatic and fiercely contested affair, with Galbally emerging victorious in a 3-2 thriller. Despite Cullen’s relentless pressure and comeback efforts, a stunning free kick and resolute defending handed Galbally the bragging rights. The match started as poor as it could have for Cullen as they lost Sean O’Donnell in the warm up and also Ciaran Brogan after 60 seconds, both to injury. Galbally asserted themselves early and took advantage when Killian Peters opened the scoring in just the 3rd minute, finishing a swift counterattack with precision. Galbally doubled their advantage in the 12th minute when Anto Murphy latched onto a loose ball and head past the Cullen goalkeeper.

Cullen, spurred by the home crowd, clawed their way back into the game after a period of sustained pressure. Following a series of corner kicks, Josh McLoughlin found the net in the 22nd minute with a tidy finish from close range, igniting hope for the home side. The second half began with fireworks as Cullen levelled the game just two minutes after the restart. Eoin O’Connell coolly converted a penalty in the 47th minute after Javier Serrano was fouled in the box. With the score tied, Cullen took control of the game, piling on the pressure but squandering several opportunities to take the lead.

Galbally made Cullen pay for their profligacy on the hour mark. A perfectly executed free kick from the edge of the box curled into the top corner, restoring the visitors’ advantage in spectacular fashion. Cullen threw everything forward in search of another equaliser. Their persistence seemed to pay off in the dying moments when the ball was bundled into the net, but the celebrations were cut short as it was ruled out for offside.

FAI U17 Cup Round 3 Sunday 17-11-24

Munster Junior Cup Round 3 Sunday 17-11-24

Peake Villa 1-0 Powerstown

Peake Villa entertained Powerstown of Division One in this third round tie. Manager Derek Loughnane took the opportunity to rotate his squad and Villa started bright, taking the game to the visitors, creating some good half-chances. Powerstown defended well from the start and made it difficult for Villa. Villa came close in the 36th minute when a Dylan Coady free kick was headed off the crossbar by Robbie Stapleton. Villa did take the lead in the 42nd minute when a Dylan Coady corner was met at the near post by Mick Ryan, whose deft touch found the far bottom corner to make it 1-0.

The second half was much the same as the first with Villa pressing without creating clear-cut chances but did come close on a few occasions with headers from Eoin O’Dwyer and substitute Pippy Carroll. Villa will feel frustrated that they did not extend the lead but were never really threatened in defence with Shane McGuire relatively quiet in goal. Villa saw the game out and move into the open draw of the cup.

Tipperary Town 0-2 St Michael’s

Holders St Michael’s advanced to round four of the Minster Junior Cup with a workmanlike victory over Tipperary Town at Arra Road on Sunday morning. Saints had the lion’s share of the possession but struggled to break down their local rivals but always looked the most likely winners in a tough uncompromising game. David Slattery had the ball in the net after 10 minutes, but it was ruled out for offside. Saints were probing well but were finding it hard to break down the mass defence of Tipp Town.

Russell Quirke hit just wide of goal on 14 minutes. At the other end right winger Dylan Cummins managed to evade the challenge of Donagh Hickey but shot over the bar on 19 minutes. David Slattery got on the end of a Luke Kiely cross on 23 minutes but his header went straight at Eric Higgins. Slattery again just headed over a minute later from a Russell Quirke cross. They eventually got the breakthrough on 42 minutes when David Slattery got on the end of a rebound from an Ed O’Dwyer shot to put St Michael’s a goal to the good.

Saints started the second half at a higher tempo and on 50 minutes Cian Fadden headed just over the bar from a Russell Quirke corner. Ed O’Dwyer pulled his effort wide of goal from a Luke Kiely cross on 52 minutes. It wasn’t pretty to watch for large periods of the game with the home side sitting deep and hoping to hit on the break and Saints final ball and pass were often off kilter. Luke Kiely showed deft footwork on the left flank and Eric Higgins got down well at the near post to save his shot. They finally got the second goal on 64 minutes when Ed O’Dwyer rose to head home a Donagh Hickey cross. Both sides used their benches over the last half hour and Adrian Walsh had to be sharp off his line on 75 minutes after Ryan Maher got in behind the Saints’ defence. The result was no longer in doubt and the game as a contest limped to it’s inevitable end at Arra Road.

Clonmel Celtic 1-0 Two Mile Borris

Despite a strong finish from Borris the home side held on to advance to the 4th round of the Munster Junior Cup.

Although Borris were pushing hard for an equaliser Celtic will feel they did enough earlier in the game to merit the 1-0 win. Celtic nearly made the perfect start when the Borris keeper couldn’t hold on to a shot in the first minute, but Celtic weren’t quick enough to react. On 7 minutes Kyle Cuddy went on a run and fired narrowly over. It was a bright start by Celtic but Borris were well organised and got behind the ball in numbers. When they did break, they looked dangerous and from one of these quick counters Urban Nolan headed narrowly over. Celtic were nearly in on 17 minutes when Sean Hawkins pounced on a loose ball, but he couldn’t keep his composure and fired well wide. Celtic enjoyed a good period enjoying plenty of possession and they made this count on 27 minutes when a Borris defender diverted an excellent Cillian Hogan cross past his own keeper.

On 33 minutes Ayo Williams went on a run deep into the Borris half and played in Sean Hawkins who was crowded out by the Borris defence and the chance went. Borris almost went in level at the break, but Jason Kelly was denied by a brilliant Fabian Kerton save. The Celtic keeper was in action again early in the second half with another fine save after a scramble in the Celtic box. Borris were enjoying more of the ball at this stage though Kyle Cuddy fired narrowly wide on 54 minutes after being set up by Darren Sweeney. Borris were looking more dangerous as the second progressed and were narrowly off target from a free kick on 65 minutes. Celtic nearly made the game safe on 79 minutes with a great effort from Rory O’Dowd. He turned inside his marker and curled a fine effort that looked destined for the top corner before Jack Dolan touched the ball onto the bar. Borris threw everything at Celtic in the final 10 minutes and came desperately close to an equaliser in the last minute but once again were thwarted by Fabian Kerton who pushed a rasping effort on to the crossbar and away for a corner as Celtic held on to advance by the narrowest of margins.

Sunday the 17th November 2024 Division 1

Galbally 4-2 Cullen Lattin

Four goals in a blistering 15 minute spell either side of half time saw Galbally claim all three points at home to Cullen Lattin. Josh Flannery had given Cullen an early advantage after good work from Darren McGrath but two quick-fire goals from Ger Quinlan and Mike Donovan saw Galbally lead 2-1 at the break. Further goals from Ger Quinlan and Eoin McGrath early in the second half wrapped up the points for Galbally and although Fiachra O’Grady pulled one back on 72 minutes, Cullen couldn’t add to their tally and Galbally saw out the game to take all three points.

Wilderness 2-1 Peake Villa (B)

Wilderness Rovers welcomed Peake Villa B in the league on Sunday morning and it was Peake Villa who started brightly and scored on 8 minutes when a loose ball fell to a Peake villa player who crossed for Tristan Kelly to nod home from 6 yards. Both sides matched each other in all departments for the rest of the first half although Stephen Woods came close to equalising for Wilderness with his header from a corner just flashing wide. Wilderness started very well in the second half and went searching for an equaliser and on 50 minutes a long throw into the Villa box caused confusion and Dean McLoughlin volleyed home into the top corner.

Wilderness were well on top and a Dean McLoughlin pass to Mikey Morrissey split the Villa defence, Morrissey crossed to Joseph Cummins to shoot but the Villa keeper blocked the initial shot and the follow up rebound to make another brilliant save. Wilderness kept looking for a second goal and on 83 minutes it came. Wilderness broke fast and Mikey Morrissey got on the ball and released Max Ryan who went through to finish brilliantly in the bottom corner for the home side to go 2-1 up. Credit to Peake Villa who responded well for the remaining five minutes and they almost found an equalise but for two fantastic saves from Jake O’Donnell in the Wilderness goal.

Two Mile Borris (B) 3-1 Vee Rovers

Borris B’s hosted Vee Rovers for a league game in New Hill and came away with a 3-1 win in the end. Borris started well and had a few chances to take the lead before Lorcan Bourke scored a good header after a fine move. Borris failed to add to the lead, and a defensive error gave Vee a soft goal to level the game. Despite several chances, Borris couldn’t restore their lead before half time.

However, in the second half Borris started fast and DJ Troy finished brilliantly to the corner almost immediately to give Borris the lead again, and had a number of chances to put the game beyond doubt before Robbie Jordan fired into the top corner from outside the box to secure all three points and put Two Mile Boris firmly in the title race.

Sunday the 17th November 2024 Division 2

Ballingarry 7-0 St Michaels (B)

After a nine-goal thriller last week against the same opposition, this promised to be a good game. The home team began very well, controlling the game from the beginning and knocking the ball around well making the away side work hard to regain possession. Ballingarry took the lead on 10 minutes after a fantastic move which included 10 of the 11 outfield players touching the ball before scoring.

The home team started the move on the right hand side with Jack Pollard who worked it to Dylan Meagher onto David Cashin in the goal and then out to John Pollard and Jonothan Ivors, Jonothan found Eoghan Pollard on the left wing who played it across into the midfield three of Michael Ivors, Stephen Holoahn and Ian Ivors who played a lovely crossfield ball for Jack Pollard to run onto from right back and he struck a powerful shot that the keeper did well to save but the always alert Keith Cleere was on hand to tap home the rebound. A fantastic goal set the home side on their way and Ballingarry were playing with plenty of confidence playing out from the back.

Eoghan Pollard, who was very dangerous on the wing, set up Michael Ivors on 20 minutes but his shot went just wide. Ballingarry took a deserved 2-0 lead when Ian Ivors was brought down in the box after a good flick on by Cleere and Stephen Holohan stepped up and made no mistake from the spot. The home team quickly scored a third after more great play out from the back, Jonothan Ivors found Eoghan Pollard who beat two players and found Michael Ivors in the box who showed great composure to slide the ball past the goalkeeper from close range. Ballingarry then grabbed a fourth just before half time when a short corner to Patrick Ivors was well whipped in and found the head of Stephen Holohan who guided the ball home to make it 4-0. Ballingarry very nearly grabbed a fifth before half time after more great work by Eoghan Pollard, but Patrick Ivors fired just wide.

The home team made the point at half time to keep the pressure up and made good on that after two minutes when a long ball was well won by Ian Ivors and he was fouled on the edge of the box and the free kick was placed in the top corner by the right foot of Michael Ivors. Michael’s were then reduced to 10 men for most of the second half and at 5-0 already faced a huge uphill task but to their credit had the better of the next 10 minutes and were unlucky not to grab a goal back after good work by the attackers but David Cashin did well to avert the danger.

The game hit a bit of a slump then for 15 minutes but Ballingarry grabbed two more late goals through Eoghan Pollard who was full credit for his goal after a fine individual display and Eddie Mullaly rounded off the scoring with a well taken finish to the roof of the net from close range after a good ball across the box by Michael Ivors.

Munster Junior Shield Round 3 Sunday 17-11-24

Old Bridge 0-1 Clonmel Celtic (B)

Celtic advanced to the next round of The Munster Junior Shield, thanks to Jack Aylward’s strike in the 46th minute. The Bridge will be fiercely disappointed with their performance and their failure to avail of the many chances they created. Celtic defended well, and their organisation was to be admired, and when the Old Bridge got desperate near the conclusion of the game, Celtic should have added a second. Old Bridge were predictable in their approach, but they will rue the missed chances.

SC&K United 3-1 Donohill & District

A hard-fought game ended with the home side advancing. Kilsheelan started brighter and hit the post on 12 minutes and created some excellent chances. The away side took the lead on 23 minutes when a defensive mix-up saw an excellent opportunist goal taken by the centre forward. Chances came and went for the home however they were level on 44 minutes with a goal of pure quality. Tommy O’Connor played a fantastic ball down the line to Ben Smith who beat his man to the end line and his first time cross was met by the in rushing Billy O’Connor who headed to the net.

SC&K were on top from the off in the second half and went 2-1 up on 62 minutes when Ben Smith finished superbly to the bottom corner from just inside the box.   The home side were now in total control with Donohill waning. With 12 minutes remaining Shane Garland collected the ball, beat the defender, and fired to the top corner to make it 3-1. Donohill continued to battle but never threatened in a game played in a very sporting manner.

St Nicholas 1-0 Suirside

This was a real cup tie at Danny O’Dwyer Park between two Division 2 sides. The first half was nip and tuck for the whole half, very little between the two teams. St Nicholas missed numerous chances and it was a game of margins. Suirside were kept to half-chances, very little between the two teams in the first half. One good chance from St Nicholas on 38 minutes saw Jason Sutton through on goal, only for the keeper to save from a shot down to his side.

Second half remained nip and tuck all through the half, with chances at both ends. On 70 minutes, St Nicholas had a great chance when a lovely cross from Aaron Blanche, saw Jason Sutton have a shot saved by the keeper. St Nicholas were putting the pressure on from then on and on 82 minutes, Jason Sutton scored from a brilliant through ball by Jason Buckley, which split the Suirisde defence, and Jason Sutton slotted the ball brilliantly with his left foot to the corner of the net to make it 1-nil. There was a couple of chances after that. Suirside hit the target with a shot, but Bradley McNabb in goal for St Nicholas saved to keep the scoreline 1-nil.

Right at the end, St Nicholas had a chance to score, when Jack Redican hit the target with a long range effort but the keeper pulled off a good save, and in the end, St Nicholas ended up keeping their lead and were deserving winners to win 1-nil and make it through to the next round of the Munster Shield competition.

Sunday the 17th November 2024 Division 3

Rosegreen 3-1 Dualla

Rosegreen started the game very well with a strong wind behind them. The game was end-to-end action in the first half and it was the home team who finally took the lead through a Stevie Brabston header. Dualla came out in the second half like a new team and drew level with a lovely goal from Colin Bourke. Both teams then had a player sent off which made the last few minutes very tense, but it was the home team who regained the lead through a lovely finish from Stevie Brabston and a few minutes later Stevie got his hat trick with a lovely taken penalty to make it 3-1 to the home team.

Mullinahone 2-2 SC&K Utd (B)

Mullinahone started brightly scoring in the 4th and 14th minutes thanks to Liam Doyle. Both sides had chances in the first half, but neither could find the back of the net. SC&K came out in the second half and got a goal back through Paddy Murphy in the 52nd minute. It was back and forth for the duration of what seemed like an exceptionally long half, with SC&K securing the equaliser in the final minute of play when Senan Murphy kept his composure to earn a point for the away side.
