FAI Junior Cup 3rd Round, 12th November 2023 Match Reports

Clodiagh Rangers 0 – 6 Peake Villa

TSDL champions Peake Villa eased into the fourth round and open draw of this year’s FAI Junior Cup when they made the relatively short trip to Drombane to dispense of North Tipperary side Clodiagh Rangers on Sunday. The away side pressured from the start and had some good early chances, but the hosts keeper was in fine form, keeping them at bay in forst quarter of the game. But he could do nothing about the opener when Dale Loughnane played in Pippy Carroll who made no mistake from close in on the twenty fourth minute. This really allowed the Thurles side to get going and they doubled their lead on the half hour mark when a great ball found Carroll again, and he knocked it down to Eoin O Dwyer who finished to the net. O Dwyer didn’t have to wait long to get his second when Kieren Hennessy played him in, and knocked it past the keeper to make it three seven minutes before the break. Villa created some more half chances before the break but did not extend their lead. They kept the pressure on early in the second half and scored again when Dylan Coady got on the score sheet four minutes in. In the fifty third minute Darragh Byrne added a fifth when scoring at the back post. Eoin O Dwyer capped off a fine performance when he secured his hat trick scoring a sixth ten minutes from time. This sees Villa advance to the open draw where they will face Strand Celtic of the Sligo League.

Munster Junior Cup, 4th Round 12th November 2023 Match Reports

St Michael’s 2 – 0 Ferrybank (Waterford)

Saints won through to the fifth round of this years Munster Junior Cup in a tense absorbing clash at Cooke Park on Sunday afternoon against a strong Ferrybank side from Waterford. The early exchanges were even with both sides fashioning chances but struggling to gain any level of fluency. Colin Bargary saw a shot in the twelfth minute go straight to Brandon O’Callaghan from a Jimmy Carr pass, and six minutes later Meshal Babatu had an effort that went just wide of Adrian Walsh’s right hand post. Carr was switched to the left wing late in the first half and he caused danger to the Ferrybank defence, setting up a series of attempts on the Ferrybank goal in the final minutes of the half, but ultimately the sides went to the break level. Veteran Paul Breen came in for DJ Cremins at half time and Saints started to up the tempo in their movement and passing. They finally took the lead in the fifty first minute with a moment of brilliance from Jimmy Carr who showed good peripheral vision to spot O’Callaghan off his line and his lob from twenty yards beat the retreating keeper to give first blood to the home side. A minute later Ashley Kelliher played a precise pass for Carr but O’Callaghan did well to advance off his line and made a telling save. Though seemingly in control, the hosts allowed themselves to be caught out on their left with ten minutes remaining by not clearing the ball and a free kick was conceded, but Meshal Babatu’s shot was too high and didn’t trouble wall in the Saint’s goal. Five minutes from time the tie was assured when an Ed O’Dwyer shot saw O’Callaghan drop the ball into his own net. After that is was a case of what the TSDL side had, they held and they moved smoothly onwards.

Munster Junior Cup, 3rd Round 12th November 2023 Match Reports

Clonmel Celtic 1 – 1 Bansha Celtic (AET, Clonmel Celtic won 4 – 3 on penalties)

Clonmel Celtic needed a penalty shootout to edge past Bansha Celtic in a keenly contested Munster Junior Cup Round 3 clash at the bypass on Sunday. The home side hadn’t played for a few weeks and they looked a bit rusty in a lacklustre first half of few opportunities. Indeed it was the visitors who had the best chance of the first half and the woodwork denied them an interval lead. They did hit the front however five minutes into the second period when Daniel O’Dwyer took advantage of hesitancy in the Celtic defence to fire low to the corner. It woke the home team out of their slumber but they were struggling to create much and were making too many errors. They finally began to motor and got level in the sixty fifth minute when Cian O’Sullivan swept home an in-swinging corner from close range. Well on top now they pushed for a winner, and Seanie Hawkins twice came close with headers before Jake Forristal nearly lit the place up with an audacious overhead kick. Despite having most of the play however they couldn’t force a second. Philip Drohan had an effort ruled out for offside and with ten minutes remaining they looked to have won a penalty when Seanie Hawkins was tripped but the referee adjudged the contact was outside the box. The hosts remained in the ascendancy in extra time but neither side could find the winner and so it was penalties that decided the tie. Celtic were faultless with their spot kicks scoring all four and keeper Fabian Kerton emerged the hero saving twice to see Celtic through on a scoreline of four goals to three.

Munster Shield 4th Round, 12th November 2023 Match Reports

Cahir Park’s second team travelled to Ennis on Sunday more in hope than in expectation, and though they gave a good account of themselves the home team was too strong for the TSDL Third Division side. The home team got off to the perfect start with a solo goal after just three minutes and remained on top for the rest of the first quarter of the game. The Tipperary side did however come into the game themselves and created some chances with one cleared off the line from Hicham Briem in the twentieth minute when they looked like they had drawn level. But just when it looked like they were right in the game, the home side hit them a hammer blow in the thirty third minute with a breakaway goal to double their advantage. This was how the game went to the break, but the Park finally did pull a goal back on the hour mark when the ever-dangerous Briem blasted an effort to the net from all of twenty-five yards out. This gave the visitors some hope, and they laid siege to the home goal for the next twenty minutes, without adding to their tally. Fairgreen finally wrapped the tie up with a brace of goals in the final ten minutes to move to the next round.

TSDL First Division 12th November 2023 Match Reports

Old Bridge 0 – 3 Vee Rovers

This was an excellent result for the visitors who took all three points from Ferryhouse against a side expected to be a promotion rival at the beginning of the season. The home side started the better, but apart from a few speculative shots from Michael O’Sullivan and Jake Mulcahy, they did not trouble the visiting goalkeeper. Rovers forced a corner after thirteen minutes, and they took the lead when Alan Condon fired a spectacular volley to the back of the net. The Bridge really upped their game after this and dominated exchanges for the remainder of the half. Jack Burke had a number of efforts go close, and the home side was left collectively scratching their heads when, after several attempts during a goalmouth scramble, the ball miraculously failed to hit the net. Burke, Jake Mulcahy, and Michael O’Sullivan were all off target, and the hosts were dealt a blow when Ciarán Walsh had to be replaced just on half with a nasty looking ankle injury. The away side spurned a great chance shortly after the break when Zak Keating missed a very scorable chance, and seven minutes into the second period, home keeper Kian Egan pulled off a good save as Vee began to threaten on the break. They effectively put the game to bed when a poor defensive clearance fell to Keating, and he made amends for his earlier miss, when he waltzed through the home defence to put his side two up. That score knocked the stuffing of the home side as the game meandered towards its inevitable conclusion, and it was no surprise when marksman Alan Condon added a third in the ninety first minute to put the cap on a good performance by his side.

Peake Villa 0 – 3 Cashel Town

Villa’s second team came off second best on Sunday morning when they fell to defeat against a very strong Cashel Town outfit. On a lovely morning for football at the Tower Grounds, the visitors fashioned the first big chance when they almost opened the scoring in the ninth minute only to be thwarted by David Purcell in the Villa goal. But even Purcell couldn’t keep Cashel out three minutes later when Kyle Ryan scored after hitting the home side on the break. The hosts did settle after this, without creating too much against a solid Cashel defence, and the game went to half time with no more scores. In the second half, Villa pressed again, trying to get back into the game, but they conceded from a corner in the fifty third minute when Darragh Browne reacted quickest to a breaking ball to score from close range. They secured the three points in the sixty second minute when Ciaran Fitzpatrick got on the end of a free kick to make it three. It was a frustrating day for the home side with nothing really going their way, but taking nothing away from Cashel, who fully deserved the win.

Cullen Lattin 1 – 2 Galbally United

Cullen welcome neighbours Galbally United to Aisling Park on a dry Sunday morning last weekend, and struggled in the early phases of the game to get to grips with the visiting side. Galbally dominated the early exchanges and went one up in the twenty third minute, when a Jordan Dineen free kick was headed home by Ger Quinlan. The hosts though they had levelled when Micheál Elligott showed good feet to get behind the visitors defence in the twenty eight minute, but his shot was well saved. Cullens Darragh O Brien delivered two excellent free kicks into the box just before half time but no Cullen player was able to get on the end of them, and Galbally went to the break in front. They doubled their lead ten minutes into the second period when Robert Doyle saved well from a Jordan Dineen free kick but James O Sullivan was on hand to tap home the rebound. The home side finally got something for their endeavours twenty minutes from time, when Harry Maher turned home an excellent Darragh O Brien cross to make it two goals to one. And Mikey Stokes thought he had salvaged a point right at the death, but his shot was well saved at the near post as the visitors held on for all three points.

TSDL Second Division 12th November 2023 Match Reports

Rosegreen Rangers 4 – 2 Suirside

Rosegreen picked up three valuable points with a good win at home to Suirside on Sunday afternoon at Nijinsky Park. The game started with both teams coming at each other hard but underfoot conditions after so much heavy rain, made it hard for either side to develop any real rhythm. The hosts finally opened the scoring on the half hour mark when Dan Corbett scored from header, and five minutes later Sean Cormack fired a screamer from all of twenty five yards out to give the home side a two goal lead at the break. Suirside came out hard in the second period to try to get back into the game, but they got caught on the break just after the hour mark when Sean Cormack set up Luke Quinlan, and he fired straight to bottom of the net to make three to nil. The visitors pulled a goal back when they scored from corner with ten minutes to play, but a Brian Morrissey goal for the hosts shortly after, restored their three-goal lead. The away side got a second back two minutes from time and were then awarded a penalty, but Rory Heffernan in the home goals made a brilliant save to ensure his side wouldn’t have a jittery final few minutes.

TSDL Third Division 12th November 2023 Match Reports

SC & K United 2 – 0 Burncourt Celtic

In a game played in ideal conditions, the two sides started evenly, with the first real chance falling to the home sides Mark Heffernan who struck the post in the thirteenth minute. They began to dominate and took the lead on twenty-seven minutes when a long throw by Ruairi Doyle was met by the head of John O Dwyer and he nodded to the net to make it one to nil. The away side struggled to create chances but thought they had levelled right on the stroke of half time, only to see Conor Grant make an excellent save in the home goal to preserve his sides lead. The home side struck the post again just before the hour mark, before they finally secured the points with fifteen minutes left on the clock when Billy O Connor set up Heffernan for his second goal, which he headed home.

TSDL Youths Report 12th November 2023 Match Reports

FAI U17 Cup, 2nd Round

Clonmel Town 2 – 3 Two Mile Borris

Town started well but found themselves one down after ten minutes when a looping cross from the right was knocked home at the back post by the unmarked Lorcan Bourke. Borris settled well after this and went further in front after twenty five minutes following a close range effort from Alex Coppinger. After this, the hosts started winning more possession in midfield and had a couple of half chances but were unable to break down a solid Borris defence. There were no more goals in the first half but Town started the second half brightly, only to concede a third goal when they failed to deal with a counter attack to leave Alex Coppinger room to volley home his second of the day. They never gave up however, and ten minutes later a superb strike from Conor Makim made it three goals to one. The game really opened up at this stage with chances at both ends. Dylan McCormack, in particular was unlucky to see his long range effort shave the outside of the post for the home side. With five minutes remaining Monsur Emiabata rose highest to head home from close range to make it a one goal game and set up a grandstand finish. However, despite the best efforts of the home side, Borris managed the closing stages very well to see themselves through to the last 16 of the competition.

TSDL Premier League 5th November 2023 Match Reports

Peake Villa 6 – 0 Bansha Celtic

Villa entertained Bansha in this league game, a fixture that was reversed the evening before, with the weather playing havoc on a lot of grounds. The home side were at it from the start and took the lead in the thirteenth minute when Pippy Carroll was put through behind the Celtic defence and he made no mistake scoring into the top corner. They doubled their lead in the twenty fifth minute when Kieren Hennessy reacted quickest to a loose ball in the area, scoring at the back post from close in. Bansha had a great chance to pull a goal back ten minutes before the break, but Willie Tierney was equal to it in the Villa goal. The hosts had a few good chances before the break to add to their lead but eventually went in two goals to the good. The second half was just five minutes old when Villa extended their lead in the when Hennessy and Pippy Carroll combined to put Pippy Carroll in, and he made it three. In the sixty sixth minute Jack Ryan Casey crossed a great ball and Ronan McGuire scored with a diving header to make it four. Carroll secured his hat trick fifteen minutes from time when he scored to the bottom corner. It was Carroll who finished off the scoring when Darragh Byrne found Eoin O Dwyer who played in Carroll who scored his fourth and his sides sixth in the final minutes of the game.

Clonmel Town 1 – 0 Tipperary Town

A Sean Kenny goal early in the second half ensured the home side picked up what could be a crucial three points come season end. In truth it was a deserving win for Clonmel Town but it didn’t come easy against a dogged Tipperary Town side who were competitive throughout the entire ninety minutes. The hosts thought they had scored sooner but had their goal chalked off for a foul on the visiting keeper mid way through the first half. With chances few and far between, it was always going to be a game settled by a single goal and it came early in the second half when Kenny rose highest to head home from a corner kick. The visitors battled hard for an equaliser but couldn’t create a clear goalscoring opportunity to get anything from this game played at a cold and wet Dr Pat O’Callaghan Sports Complex.

FAI Junior Cup 3rd Round, 5th November Match Reports

St Michael’s 7 – 0 Rearcross

Saints eased into round four of the FAI Junior Cup while playing well within themselves against a game Rearcross side at Cooke Park on Sunday. It was obvious the gulf in class right from the off and they had a couple of chances to score before finally making one count inm the twenty second minute when the ball fell kindly for Danny O’ Brien to score from close range. It could have been two four minutes later when Colin Bargary played in Ashley Kelliher but his effort went narrowly wide of the far post. Three goals in three minutes ended this game as a contest just before the break when first the evergreen Paul Breen headed home, before O’Brien forced the ball home to add his second, and right on the half time whistle Ed O’ Dwyer turned well and his right foot shot nestled in the corner of the net. It only took three minutes to make it five when Breen got his second heading home a Colin Bargary free kick. Fifteen minutes from time Jimmy Carr made it six from the penalty spot, and Shane Ryan finished the scoring on the day with a goal two minutes from time turning home a Jimmy Carr cross.

Cahir Park 0 – 2 Two Mile Borris

The home side never really got going in this game and were dumped out of this years FAI Junior Cup, going down to a brace of strikes by the deadly Jamie Carey for the visitors. Carey showed his intent as early as the eight minute when he forced a good save from Aaron Wall, in a period of dominance from the visitors that saw them pin the home side back consistently. That was for all but a five minute spell around the middle of the first half, when both Pa Quinn and Niall Daly were thwarted by good saves from the visiting keeper, but beyond that small spell Borris were in the ascendency and were unlucky not to go to the break in front. That changed ten minutes into the second period when they finally found a way through thanks to a spectacular goal by Carey who beat Wall from all of twenty five yards out. After that the visitors were content to allow the Park to come at them and look for a second on the break. This came fifteen minutes from time, when once again Jamie Carey did the damage, slamming home a second rasping effort from outside the area. The spirit knocked out of the home side, Borris held on comfortably to the end to find a place in the draw for the next round.

TSDL Second Division 5th November 2023 Match Reports

Dualla 0 – 0 Cashel Town

Both sides finished this game frustrated as it seems like a common thread has emerged of neither getting the reward their play deserved, and this game finished scoreless. Both sides looked to start pushing forward early but it was the defences that were on top throughout and the game went to the break with no goals scored. It was the very same for the second half with plenty strong challenges going in, but even when the defence may have been breached, the keepers from both sides were well up to their tasks. It was nil all in the end, a fair result, if a frustrating one.

TSDL Third Division 5th November 2023 Match Reports

Clonmel Celtic 0 – 1 Ballingarry Albion

The visitors took the points in this keenly contested top of the table clash at Celtic Park on Sunday morning. The home side started the brighter and had the better of the opening half creating some good chances. They missed one great opportunity just before the break as the first half finished scoreless. The visitors then began the second half on top, and unlike Celtic they took advantage of the period when they were in the ascendancy with Jack Pollard powerfully heading home Michael Ivors’ corner in the sixty fourth minute. They almost added a second moments afterwards, but the hosts managed to scramble the ball to safety. Celtic steadied themselves and finished strongly but couldn’t break down a strong Ballingarry rearguard as they held on for a crucial win.

SC & K United 5 – 1 Killenaule Rovers

After a number of recent defeats Kilsheelan returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon when they hosted near neighbours Killenaule Rovers. After a great start they found themselves two goals up within fifteen minutes through Mark Heffernan and Cathal de Faoite. Killenaule then pulled a goal back just on the half hour mark, but Billy O’Connor netted late on in the half to give the hosts a two-goal lead at the break. Their dominance continued in the second period and Nathan Dolan fired home from distance midway through, before Jamie Roche finished off the scoring late on, to give the victors a comfortable five goal to one win, and crucially all three points.

Munster Youths Cup, 3rd Round

Clonmel Celtic 3 – 4 Two Mile Borris

Clonmel Celtic welcomed Two Mile Borris to Ferryhouse on Saturday in what promised to be one of the most highly anticipated games of the season, and they didn’t disappoint, producing seven goals and ninety minutes of action. In the opening minutes it was the away team that got off to a flying start when after just four minutes, Tom Ryan scored direct from a free kick to put his side in front. For the next fifteen minutes the away team dominated and extended their lead in the twentieth minute, when Louis Coughlan scored a glancing header from another dead ball. At two down the challenge for Celtic to get back into the game was tough, but they settled and began to get a foothold in the game, reducing the lead to a single goal just after the half hour mark, when Jack Aylward struck a superb long range shot to find the top corner. Five minutes before the break Aylward struck again from outside of the box to level the game, and set up a massive second half. The hosts continued their momentum at the beginning of the second period and took the lead ten minutes in when Cillian O Brien got in behind the Borris defence and finished well from close in. But the visitors heads never dropped and just a short time later they levelled the game once again when Tristan Troy found himself free in the penalty area and he made no mistake from twelve yards out. At this point the game was all to play for, but the decisive moment came with just under twenty minutes to play, when the away team were awarded a penalty that was fired home by Jake Cullen Jordan, to once again allow Borris get their noses in front. The home side rallied and continued to create chances, especially after the visiting keeper saw red, but the stand in managed to pull off some superb saves to keep Celtic at bay. In the end that was enough and they held out to win a place in the next round of the draw in this competition.

TSDL Youths Division 2

SC & K United 4 – 1 Cullen Lattin

Kilsheelan’s Youths picked up their first win of the season at home on Saturday when they despatched Cullen Lattin with a dominant display that they won by four goals to one in the end. The opening exchanges saw the home side create the better chances, before the visitors were reduced to ten-men midway through the first-half. The hosts continued to see most the ball without creating any clear cut opportunities, and the sides went into the break scoreless. Just moments into the second half, the home side finally made their pressure pay off, when Gus Nolan twisted & turned before firing home inside the visitors penalty area. The lead as doubled in the fifty third minute when Sean Boyle found the bottom-corner from twenty yards out, to put Celtic in complete control of the game. And two became three, just before the hour mark when Senan O’Shea got the goal his work-rate deserved, firing home from close range to open his account for the season. By the sixty fifth minute Celtic had added a fourth Brandon Landers volleyed home from the right after a smart cross

field ball. To the visitors credit, they continued to battle and deservedly pulled a goal back in the final minutes firing home from the edge of the penalty area, but it was much too little, much too late to make any difference to the final result.

Two Mile Borris 4 – 3 Clonmel Town

Borris entertained Clonmel Town in the Second Division of the Youths league on Saturday and came away with a win by a single goal in a seven-goal thriller. The hosts opened the scoring through Cian Dwyer after some great football, mid-way through the first half, and looked like they were going to see it out to the break in the lead. But the visitors got back on terms just before half time. They then took the lead five minutes after the restart, but Borris replied brilliantly through Eric Garcia and inside the next ten minutes, got two quick fire goals through Lorcan Bourke and Cian Dwyer, to put themselves in complete control. The visitors got a third late on, and put the hosts under pressure in the later stages of the game, but Borris held on to take all three points.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner]

Mullinahone 3 – 0 Galbally United

This game was played in testing conditions with a heavy pitch which made it difficult for both teams to really get a hold of the game. The first chance of the game fell to Liam Doyle in the eighteenth minute when a loose goal kick fell to the home striker but his effort failed to hit the target. Mullinahone finally took the lead minutes later after a free kick from the right hand side was headed back across the goal by Michael Cuddihy and was turned home by Colin O Brien. The visitors had a flurry of corners in the twenty fifth minute and went close with a header at the back post, but were unable to make a breakthrough. Both teams struggled for the rest of the half to create any real chances and the home side went in a goal up. The second half saw an improvement in the home team and made a number of good chances, with one goal being ruled out for offside. They finally made their pressure pay though fifteen minutes from time when Michael Cuddihy sent Liam Doyle through on goal and he made no mistake in finding the net past the out rushing keeper. Two quickly became three when Adam Doyle beat two players in the Galbally area, and squared it across the face of the goal for Liam Doyle to tap home. The home side almost made it four in the final minutes but they were more than happy with their days work when the final whistle was blown.

Munster Junior Cup, 29th October 2023 Match Reports

Munster Junior Cup, 3rd Round

Cashel Town 0 – 8 St Michael’s

Saints were in top form here and turned in probably their best performance of the season when they dismantled Cashel at Dixie Currivan Park on Sunday afternoon. After a bright start and a few half chances, they took the lead on seven minutes when Jimmy Carr was upended after an Ed O’Dwyer pass and he stood up to score from the spot kick. It was two in the twenty first minute, when Colin Bargary found Ed O’Dwyer just outside the area, and the striker spun and fired home from the edge of the box. Shane Ryan’s header on the half hour mark from a Rhys O’Regan corner hit the side netting, as the visitors smelled blood in the water. Cashel had brief moments but never really looked like they were going to break down the solid visiting defence and Saints went in comfortably two goals to the good. They moved up a gear in the second period and added a third only two minutes in, when O Dwyer finally got the goal, his performance had been threatening. Four minutes later it was four nil, when Shane Ryan was upended in the area and Jimmy Carr scored with his second penalty of the day. At the other end substitute Andrew Fitzpatrick saw his free kick go narrowly wide of Adrian Walsh’s goal, and Eoin Byrne headed narrowly wide, while a left footed effort from Eoin Byrne was tipped over by Adrian Walsh. These were brief respites in a dominant Saints performance. Rhys O’Regan saw his effort deflected into the goal twenty minutes from time to make it five, and they added three more inside the last ten minutes through David Slattery and a brace by Danny O Brien, to round off a really dominant performance.

Munster Shield 2nd Round, 29th October Match Reports

St Nicholas 1 – 3 Ballingarry Albion

This game started out very evenly with both sides probing the other looking for chinks, but the the first real chance came in the fourteenth minute when a free kick to the hosts taken by Declan O Riordan looked like it was heading to the net, only to be clawed away by a brilliant save from the visiting keeper. Eight minutes later Jamie Buckley fired a pin point cross into the area but Paddy Fitzgerald was just inches away from applying the finishing touch as the Saint’s looked like they were about to go in front. This was the last of the clear chances in the first half and the teams went to the break level at nil all. It took thirteen minutes in the second half for the deadlock to finally be broken, and when it was it was scored by Jason Sutton who gave the hosts the lead their play deserved. Well in control now, the home side lost Fitzgerald in the sixty fifth minute to an injury, and this seemed to shift the momentum of the game back towards the visitors. Three minutes later Eoin Burke scored the equalising goal with a good finish from a cross into the area, and ten minutes later they took the lead when Ryan Hicks scored from close in. The game was nip and tuck after this as the hosts tried hard to get back level, but in the final minutes they conceded a third goal to Eoin Pollard on a breakaway which ensured that it would be Albion heading into the next round of the competition.

Cahir Park 5 – 0 Two Mile Borris

This started off a very even game with both teams having a number of half chances to score in the first twenty minutes, but a devastating nine minute spell for the home side made sure that they would be going into the draw for the next round of the Shield. After the initial probing had been done, the Park finally opened the scoring in the twenty third minute, thanks to a brilliant long range effort from David Clifford, that gave the Borris keeper no chance between the posts. And he was hardly over the concession of that effort when another long range shot, this time from James Darcy doubled the home sides lead. Two minutes after the half hour mark, Liam Murphy added a third, to turn what might have been a tight affair for the home side, into a much more comfortable game. Leading by three at the break, the home side sat back a little in the early part of the second period, drawing Borris on to them, and almost paid the price on the hour mark, when Oisin Lavin was forced into a brilliant save to preserve his sides advantage. This stirred the home side again however and they added a fourth when Dean Fitzwater found the net fifteen minutes from the end. A fifth arrived some minutes after to put a gloss on what was a very good performance by Cahir on the day.
