Peake Villa 5 – 0 Clonmel Celtic

Peake Villa were in ruthless mode when they dispatched Clonmel Celtic on Sunday morning underneath a warm sun with barely a breeze of note. They were on their game right from the off and opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Ronan McGuire fired home, with his effort going in off the post. But the visitors soon settled and created some good chances during the first half, forcing Shane Mc Guire into some good saves in the Villa goal to keep his side in front. The hosts thought they had a second five minutes before the break, when Pippy Carroll found the net with a good header but the referee called play back for an earlier foul and the goal was chalked off. With only a single goal advantage at the break, the Thurles side took the game to the visitors in the second half and the goal of the game came in the fifty seventh minute with good build up play and a fine finish from Dale Loughnane to the bottom corner to double the home sides lead. They scored again nine minutes later when Darragh Byrne done well down the right and crossed to Keith Cahill who laid a ball off to Ronan McGuire to score his second, and he secured his hat trick two minutes later to put Villa four up and well on their way to victory. Pippy Carroll finally got the goal his good play deserved six minutes from time, to wrap up the scoring.

Clonmel Town 5 – 0 Bansha Celtic

This was the reverse fixture of the same tie last weekend when Clonmel Town dropped two vital points in their title chase, but they were never going to be caught out twice, and took all three points after a comprehensive victory over a Bansha team, now free of the spectre of relegation. The home side started well and opened the scoring in the fifteenth minute when some excellent one touch football saw Cillian Crowe being played through to slot past the keeper. They were completely dominant after this, and some sloppy defending by the Bansha defence allowed Ashley Laslett latch onto a half volley to put his side two up just after the half hour mark. Jack O Donnell put the game to bed with another excellent team goal right on halftime, and although the visitors chose to sit deeper in the second period, they were constantly faced with waves of Town attacks. Rhys O Regan finally made it four, fifteen minutes from time, with an excellent strike, and the same player had the final say when when he tapped home his sides fifth, with almost the final kick of the game.

Two Mile Borris 1 – 4 St Michael’s

Although back in another FAI Cup final, the players and managers of St Michael’s will tell people always that the TSDL Premier League title is their bread and butter, and they stayed well in the race for another title this season with a good win away to a much improved Borris side. The game was scrappy in the first quarter of an hour, and it was unsurprising that the first goal would come from a defensive error that was latched on by Rhys Byron to put the visitors in front. After that the game settled into a dour midfield battle that had plenty of grit and determination, but lacked much quality until two minutes before the break, when Byron struck for a second time, to give his side a comfortable half time lead. The game in the second period followed a similar pattern as the first, but Borris were given an opportunity to get back into it, when they were awarded a penalty kick just after the hour mark, that Martin Darmody fired to the net. But they only had the lead cut back to the minimum for less than five minutes when the visitors were awarded a penalty kick of their own, and Joey Mulcahy made no mistake from the spot. The game went into cruise mode after this, and the final score came just two minutes from time, when Russell Quirke fired low into the Borris net from just inside the area, to ensure his sides win

But it only took five minutes of the second period to break the deadlock, when Ger Browne got on the end of some good work around the edge of the area to fire the ball to the net. This meant that the home side had to come out of their defensive shell to get back into the tie, and this left gaps behind, which were ruthlessly exploited twelve minutes from time when Eoin O Sullivan finished off a counter attack with a brilliant finish. After that the visitors were able to sit back and soak up any pressure without too much worry, to book their place in the final, where they will start as strong favourites.

Cahir Park 3 – 1 Old Bridge

League champions Cahir Park remained on course for a league and Shield double, when they finally put a tough Old Bridge side to the sword on Sunday afternoon. Both sides have been showing some good form of late, but the game was decidedly scrappy for much of the first quarter. The hosts finally settled and took the lead in the twenty second minute, when Ian Flannery fired home a smashing effort, volleying to the top corner of the net after the visitors thought they had cleared away a corner kick. The game remained tight and there were no more goals in the first half, with the first twenty minutes of the second also following the same pattern. But the visitors finally managed to get a leveller when Johnny Cagney fired home a volley of his own that saw the Park keeper rooted to his line. Bridge began to turn the screw after this, and looked to be the more likely winners, but ten minutes from time, the home side retook the lead against the run of play, when Willie Dunne took advantage of a defensive mistake to roll the ball into an empty net. Having no choice but to pour forward, Bridge were caught again two minutes from time when Barry Cooney finished the scoring with a third decisive goal for the home side.

Darragh Walsh did eventually open the scoring from close range to give the away side the lead midway through the half, but on the stroke of half time Stephen Quinn made a penetrating run into the oppositions defence, and when the ball broke to Caleb Hickey, he hit a goal of the season contender from all of thirty yards out, that gave the away keeper no chance. That left the game one all at the break, but not long into the second period, a visibly tiring home side were picked off by their younger opponents. Sam O Dwyer made it two goals to one, with a good finish from the left while Kerwin scored the third and fourth from close range in the final twenty minutes of the game. The home side knocked on the door a number of times late on, but they never really looked like they were getting back into the tie.

This settled whatever nerves the home side may have had, and they added a second eight minutes before the break, when Carey again delivered into the box for Mickie O Brien. They kept this two goal lead to the break, and started the second period with their tails up, before adding a third goal just after the hour mark when Mikey stokes tapped home after some good build up play by Adam Lohan and Darragh O Brien. Moyglass United 1 – 2 Two Mile Borris

After their comeback heroics in the league last weekend, Moyglass were unable to repeat the trick in the second round of the Third Division Shield, when they went down against Two Mile Borris to the odd goal in three on Sunday afternoon. The game was pretty even with few chances until the visitors took the lead just after the half hour mark when Donnacha Troy took advantage of a mix up in the home area to fire home. And Moyglass were still reeling from this when the conceded a second five minutes later, to a brilliant headed effort by Padraig Fogarty.
