Cashel Town 4 – 1 Vee Rovers
A first half blitz by Division 1 league champions Cashel Town put the disappointment of last weekends Paddy Purtill loss behind them and secured the First Division Shield, to add to their league trophy.
Cashel were dominant right from the beginning in this game and had a number of chances go close before they finally opened the scoring in the fifth minute when after some good build up play, the ball was played to Darragh Browne who fired into the top corner of the net from outside the area. They only had to wait seven more minutes to add a second as they blitzed the Vee defence and Lee Riordan tapped home from close in. Two became three in the twentieth minute, when Seanie Fitzpatrick added a goal with a shot from ten yards out, as Cashel threatened to run riot. Vee steadied the ship a little and on the half hour pulled a goal back thanks to Alan Condon. But the league champions ensured they would restore their three goal lead by half time when five minutes before the break, a long ball into the Rovers area caused indecision and O Riordan added a second with a shot from the edge of the area.
There might have been some belief that Vee would try to get back into the game in the second period, but really nothing ever came of it, with Cashel battening down the hatches and the game petered out with little or no action, as the long season seemed to have finally taken a toll on the legs, and Cashel secured the cup
