TSDL Premier League 8th April 2024 Match Reports
Two Mile Borris 0 – 6 Peake Villa
Villa came out on top in this local Derby to keep their hopes of retaining their Premier League title intact with some clinical finishing the difference on the day. The first 20 minutes were a tight affair with both defences on their game. The visitors finally broke the deadlock in the thirty fifth minute when Micheal Quinlan played in Ronan Mc Guire, who rounded the keeper to score. They doubled that lead six minutes later when Kieren Hennessy crossed, and Mc Guire leapt highest to head over the keeper to make the score at half time two goals to nil, to the away side. They introduced Pippy Carroll in the second half, coming back from injury, and what a half he had. A Keith Cahill free kick on the hour mark, was cleared but only as far as Carroll, who volleyed to the top corner to make it three. In the sixty fifth minute Liam McCormack played in Carroll who made no mistake to make it with a low shot. And he completed his second half hat trick fifteen minutes from time when he was taken down in the box, and he got up to score the resultant penalty. He rounded off a man of the match performance three minutes from time when he scored his fourth and his sides sixth when he chased down a defender, won the ball, and fired low to the net to the delight of the Villa supporters.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner]
The home side badly needed the points in this game, and started well, opening the scoring in the tenth minute when a cross into the box was tapped home by Eamon Quirke. Things were looking even better when they doubled the lead in the twenty fifth minute when a Shane Egan shot flew into the far corner. But this seemed to wake the visitors up, and they pulled a goal back ten minutes before the break when a long throw into the box wasn’t dealt with and Philip Drohan fired home at the back post. It still looked like the hosts would take a lead to the break, but almost on the stroke of half time, there was a mix up in the Bansha defence and a back pass was left short, allowing Darren Sweeney to pounce and make it two all at the break. Rocked by this, the home side became hesitant and the visitors took control, hitting the front on fifty three minutes, when a cross from the left was side footed home by Niall Prendergast. But Bansha rallied and got level once again on the hour mark when from a corner, a Clonmel defender under pressure sliced his clearance into his own net for an own goal. But that was as good as it got for the home side, and the away side regained the lead fifteen minutes from time when another mix up in the home defence allowed Niall Prendergast in to score his second of the afternoon. They made sure of the win six minutes from time when Philip Drohan shot from fifteen yards out, and saw the ball nestle in the bottom corner.
Cahir Park 1 – 0 Clonmel Town
Cahir Park cemented their third place position in the Premier League after a one goal win over Clonmel Town on Sunday afternoon. The away team started the brighter and were unlucky not to take an early lead, having two decent chances in the first ten minutes of the game. But the hosts eventually settled down and played their way into the game, finally opening the scoring in the twenty seventh minute when Willie Dunne fired home from the edge of the area, with a very well taken goal. They kept this lead to the break, and in the second half, the home side completely dominated, forcing the Town keeper into a host of saves, and seeing some chances come back off the woodwork. But they were unable to add to the first half goal, and in the end were happy to take the points with a single goal victory.

Tipperary Town 1 – 3 Two Mile Borris
This game was moved to Newhill Park on Sunday, and by the end of the afternoon, Borris had taken the points and left their opponents still stuck firmly in the relegation mire, with time running out to escape that trap door. But despite having to travel for a “home” game, Tipperary Town started brightly, and opened the scoring early in the game courtesy of an unstoppable free kick from Ryan Maher. The quality of goals didn’t end there however, and in the thirty fifth minute, Borris’ Jamie Lee stepped up and buried one into the top corner giving Town keeper Timmy Esmonde no chance. Just before the break, the hosts took the lead, when a great break away from a Town corner ended up at the feet of Daniel Rafter to score from close range. This left Borris in control, and they dominated much of the second period, before wrapping up the points fifteen minutes from time when a slip in the visitor’s defence allowed Jamie Lee to grab his second of the game with a tidy finish. The Tipperary town side will face the only team below them in the table next Sunday, when they play Wilderness Rovers, and that has become a must win game now, while they hope some of the teams around them begin to slip up.

Cullen Lattin 3 – 0 Vee Rovers
Cullen Lattin took a huge step towards joining Cashel Town in next seasons Premier League, when they shot down rivals Vee Rovers in what looked effectively like a head-to-head for the second available promotion spot from the First Division. The home side started quickly, and had a number of efforts before Micheàl Elligott finally put them in front when he headed home a cross from Mikey Stokes in the twelfth minute. They thought they had a penalty eight minutes later, when Darren Mc Grath went down in the box but the visitor’s defender was judged to have made contact with the ball, and the claim was waved away. But they finally did get the second goal they craved before the break, when with six minutes left in the half, Ben Carey curled a wonderful free kick into the bottom corner, to the delight of the home crowd. They continued pressing in the same vein in the second period, and wrapped the game up on the hour mark, when Darren Mc Grath finished well after being teed up by Max Reardon on the counter attack. The closest the visitors came to getting a foothold back into the game came ten minutes from the end, when after a mix up in the Cullen box, it fell to Ben Carey to make a goal line clearance and assure his team a clean sheet along with the three precious points.
TSDL Second Division report 8th April 2024 Match Reports
Two Mile Borris 2 – 1 Suirside
Borris Seconds claimed the Division Two title with a game to spare in very blustery conditions in Newhill Park on Sunday last, giving the club representation next season in both of the top two divisions in the TSDL. Chances in this game were few and far between in the first half with the wind hampering both teams’ efforts to play nice football. Both keepers were kept quiet, until right on the stroke of half time when the home side took the lead thanks to a DJ Troy effort that managed to squeeze past the Suirside keeper at his near post. The second half started fast and Suirside aided by the wind got back on level terms within four minutes of the restart scoring from a set piece. Both keepers were being tested throughout the half, as the pace stepped up from the first forty five minutes, but the crucial goal came five minutes after the hour mark when Troy got released down the right wing and headed straight for goal and released an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net. After that the home side settled into defensive mode, while always looking for opportunities to hit on the break, and in the end claimed the three points that sparked huge celebrations amomgst team, management and supporters. The win is testament to the work being put in by the mid Tipperary side at underage level, with seven youths’ players on the pitch on Sunday, a real sign that great things might be just around the corner for the club.
Powerstown 3 – 0 Cashel Town
Powerstown did their own promotion hopes no harm on Sunday, when they took all three points in their tie against Cashel Town. In the game itself, Cathal McKeown’s rich vein of form continued, scoring after just nine minutes. A clipped pass from Aaron Hannigan found Conor McGrath, who somehow managed to play Mc Keown through while falling backwards, and the striker made no mistake with his finish. He was unlucky not to grab a second moments later, but his effort was touched over by the keeper and out for a corner. Cashel failed to create any substantial chances throughout the half, and the home side went to the break in front. The second goal came five minutes into the second period, when Brendan Boland won the ball in midfield, played it off to Gino Lonergan who put the ball in behind for Cathal Mc Keown, and he added to his tally with a cool finish. The visitors best chance of the half came on the hour mark, but some excellent defending by the home side kept the visitors out. Minutes later, the destination of the points was sealed when Gino Lonergan got the third goal for the hosts. A quick throw from Cathal Mc Keown deep in the Town half found Aaron Kiely, and when his effort was parried by the keeper into the path of Lonergan the veteran found the back of the net with a tap in.
TSDL Third Division report 8th April 2024 Match Reports
Burncourt Celtic 2 – 6 Clonmel Celtic
This game was played in blustery conditions in Ferryhouse, and got off to a brisk start, with the Clonmel side hitting the front in just the sixth minute when Davy Garrett got on the end of a cross to slot home from ten yards out. Burncourt responded well and started to dominate possession creating a few chances but were guilty of some bad misses, before Kyle Hayes latched onto a fine cut back from Alex Meaney to level the game in the twentieth minute. A defensive lapse within a minute though, had Clonmel back in front with Davy Garrett again popping up at the back Post to fire home. Burncourt again were sloppy with chances created not being converted in the next few minutes, but five minutes before the break, they got level for a second time when Aaron O Mahoney turned and shot from inside the box to the bottom corner, to leave the score at two all at halftime. Both sides made changes at halftime and it was Clonmel Celtic who looked the fresher, and Garrett completed his hat trick in the fifty first minute. Jamie Hindley added a fourth on sixty three minutes making it a game to chase for Burncourt. But try as they might they could not find the net again and as they pushed forward, two late goals from Jamie Hindley and Kian O Reilly completed the scoring, to make it a comfortable three points in the end for the Clonmel side.

Two Mile Borris 3 – Cahir Park 1
Borris travelled to Cahir Park today in a pulsating affair against Cahirs’ A team in a hard fought battle against a very strong Cahir side. Borris had many opportunities early on starting brightly but struggled to find the back of the net until late in the first half when Lorcan Bourke scored a wonder goal from a free kick from 25 yards into the top corner to give Kevins the lead. Minutes before half time Cahir replied with an equaliser through an unlucky deflection after a mix-up in the Borris defence. This left the half-time score at 1-1. Both teams struggled to break the deadlock in the second half, with Borris spurning many opportunities with the goal at the mercy. Both sides had opportunities only for the woodwork and some good defending saw the game finish a draw in normal time. This led the game into extra time, where Borris started with the breeze at their backs and started the stronger. Halfway into the first half of extra time Kevins deservedly took the lead after a brilliant over the top ball by our goalkeeper Conor Donnelly to Lorcan Bourke who calmly slotted the ball past the Cahir keeper leaving Kevins 1 up at half time. Cahir to their credit fought hard for an equaliser, but the Borris backline stood strong. Borris capped a fine team performance when Conor Ryan broke down the wing and unselfishly squared the ball to Lorcan Bourke yet again to complete his hat trick to seal the win for Borris. This now puts us through to the semi-final of the Tipperary Cup where our opponents are yet to be determined. A fantastic team performance from a very young Kevins side who still remain unbeaten this season.
TSDL Youths Div 1 Youths Shield
Clonmel Celtic 2 – 1 Cashel Town
Clonmel Celtic will take a slender lead into the 2nd leg of this Youth Shield tie after a two goals to one win against Cashel Town on Saturday. Cillian O’Brien put Celtic ahead after ten minutes but Cashel responded well and had the better of the first half that failed to produce any more goals. They were stunned as were a lot of the supporters at the start of the second half when straight from kick off Jack Alyward’s audacious effort sailed over a stranded Cashel keeper to put Celtic two goals up. The visitors were rocked a little by this setback but finished the game strongly and with three minutes remaining the ball fell to Callum Butler and his brilliant overhead kick found the net. Celtic know despite having a goal lead they will need a big improvement in the second leg as Cashel looked the better side for much of this game.
