St Michael’s 3-1 SC&K Utd

ST Michaels staged a good comeback in the second half to book a place in the Youth Division  2 Shield final. It was the visitors who had the better chances early on and Robert Swords did well to save from Darren Kirwan on 19 minutes. SC&K took the lead on 39 minutes when a speculative cross from Sean Hughes went all the way to the net.

The introduction of Christian Flanagan at half time boosted Saints. Saints won a free on 50 minutes but Denis Cremins saw his effort saved by Alec Quigley. The visitors had a great chance to increase their lead on 64 minutes when they were awarded a penalty but Gus Nolan’s effort came back off the post. Luke Webster headed Saints level on 76 minutes with a good header from a Denis Cremins’ corner. It was 2-1 to Saints on 79 minutes when Christian Flanagan’s corner went all the way to the net. St Michael’s 1-0 Peake Villa

Saints took the points here in this end of season fixture in Cooke Park. Peake had the better of the first half and Mikey Wade’s flicked header went wide of goal following a corner kick in the 11th minute. Ronan Maguire fired wide of goal on 19 minutes. A good Jimmy Carr run in the 20th minute saw the ball smothered by Evan Comerford. Jimmy Carr did have the ball in the net in the 21st minute but it was ruled out for offside. Mikey Wade again saw his flicked header go wide on 34 minutes. A Stephen Carroll free kick went wide just on half time.

Russell Quirke fired over the bar on 52 minutes and Ed O’Dwyer hit wide a minute later. David Slattery fired over the bar when well placed on 56 minutes and his header from a Russell Quirke corner went straight at Evan Comerford. Stephen Carroll’s header from a corner kick went just wide before St Michael’s made the breakthrough on 73 minutes when Paul Breen found Jimmy Carr on the right following a corner kick and Ed O’Dwyer was on hand to finish to the corner of the net. Paul Breen did well to clear for a corner from a Ronan Maguire cross on 81 minutes. The closest Peake Villa came to an equaliser was when Dale Loughnane crossed from the byline but the forward couldn’t get a clean connection on the ball.

Bansha Celtic 0-3 Clonmel Town

Clonmel Town opened the scoring on five minutes when a free from the right was headed home by Ben Browne. Town made it two on 28 minutes when a through ball put Ian Healy clear and he side footed past the keeper. Bansha had a great chance to reduce the deficit, but the wingers shot cleared the crossbar. Clonmel Town made the game safe on 75 minutes when the goalie was dispossessed outside the area, and Patrick Galka shot home to make it three nil to Town.

Two Mile Borris 5-1 Clonmel Celtic

Borris played their final league game of the season in Newhill Park on Sunday and secured 3rd place in the league with a 5-1 win over Clonmel Celtic. Borris started well and put Celtic under a lot of pressure before Jason Kelly opened the scoring with a fine finish from a good through ball from Tom Ryan in the 15th minute. Five minutes later Loarn O’Toole made it 2 nil when a corner kick broke to him in the box and he fired it low to the Celtic net. Borris kept the pressure on, and Jamie Lee made it 3 nil with a volley before Loarn O’Toole made it four nil just before half time with a powerful header from a Jamie Lee corner. Celtic pulled one back in the 50th minute through Peter O’Dowd to make it 4-1. The Celtic keeper made a number of good saves as Borris stepped up the pressure before Jack Cleary made it 5-1 with a well-placed header after a Jamie Lee shot was well saved in the 80th minute.

 Division 1

Wilderness Rovers 3-4 Powerstown

A brilliant morning for a game of ball and both Wilderness and Powerstown served up a great game of football. Powerstown took the lead on 14 minutes when Mark Olney headed home from a corner. They doubled their lead on 36 minutes when John Allen Lowes scored from the wing which somehow found the net. Wilderness fought back and scored on 44 minutes to bring it back to 2-1.

Powerstown got a third when a free was blocked and the ball fell to Simon Aherne who finished well.

Wilderness came back at Powerstown and on 70 minutes scored a penalty through Graham Kelly. Wilderness threw everything at Powerstown and got back on level terms when Anthony Crotty won a header and Sean Browne ran on to it and buried it to the net. Wilderness threw everything at the visitors to get a winner and hit the post on 88 minutes through Jake Forristal.  Powerstown got a late free and it was headed clear but a fantastic finish from Conor Ryan gave Powerstown the lead. 4-3.

Wilderness went in search of an equaliser again but Powerstown held out well. A great game of football to watch.

Clonmel Celtic 2-3 Burncourt Celtic

Clonmel Celtic B’s inconsistent season continued last Friday evening as they went down 3-2 to Burncourt Celtic. Celtic went ahead on 16 minutes when Jack Aylward cut in from the left wing and fired a low strike into the bottom right hand corner. The visitors responded well and came close on a couple of occasions before James Mulcahy levelled on 31 minutes firing home at the far post from a corner. Both sides had chances coming up to halftime but Celtic sneaked ahead again when Jack Aylward got on the end of a through ball to fire home to give Celtic a 2-1 interval lead. For a good part of the second half it was very even but as the game approached the latter stages the visitors got on top. On 75 minutes Burncourt equalised when Dylan Fitzgerald showed great persistence to evade a few challenges to fire to the corner of the net. Just three minutes later the visitors hit the front when Christopher English spotted the Celtic keeper off his line and produced a wonderful chipped finish to the delight of the players and small band of supporters! Celtic pushed hard in the last 12 minutes, but Bunrcourt held on for a 3-2 win.

Paddy Purtill Cup 1/4 final

Peake Villa 2-0 Tipperary Town

Peake Ville entertained Tipp Town in this cup tie on Sunday afternoon.

There was nothing between these two sides in the league, and this game was very similar.

The game was played at a frantic pace in the first twenty minutes, and Villa came close on two occasions when Cathal McElgunn got in behind the Tipp defence twice but his efforts were well saved by Eric Higgins in the Tipp goal.

Tipp Town came close midway through the half but Ryan Maher’s effort went over.

Both sides lost players to injuries in the first half.

Vinny Godfrey had to be replaced for Tipp Town, and Villa lost Sean Cahill to a shoulder injury, hopefully not too serious, and we wish them a speedy recovery.

Villa broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when Cathal McElgunn scored close-in to make it 1-0 to the home side.

Just before the break, Villa could have doubled their lead when Conor Loughnane came close from a corner, but his header went just wide.

The second half was very much like the first, with both teams sitting in and hoping to catch each other on the break.

Tipp Town came close to an equaliser when good play from Dylan Cummins found Ryan Maher, whose header hit the crossbar.

Villa doubled their lead in the 71st minute when a Darren McGuire free kick found Kevin Croke in space, and he made no mistake to make it 2-0.

Tipp tried to get back into the game but were finding it hard to break down a solid villa defence well marshalled by Conor Loughnane and Jack Kelly.

Villa saw out the game, and it ended 2-0.
