Division 2 Relegation Round Robin

Wednesday 27th May 2026
Mullinahone 1 – 1 Suirside

Mullinahone and Suirside shared the spoils in a tense and fiercely contested relegation round robin clash where neither side could afford defeat. The importance of the occasion was evident from the opening whistle as every tackle, clearance and challenge carried extra significance.

The game was played at a frantic pace, with both teams looking to gain an early advantage. Mullinahone started brightly and enjoyed long spells of possession, but Suirside remained organised and difficult to break down. Chances were at a premium as both defences showed tremendous discipline throughout the opening half.

The breakthrough eventually arrived when Mullinahone managed to turn pressure into a goal, sparking celebrations among the home support. However, Suirside responded admirably and gradually worked their way back into the game. Their persistence paid off when they found an equaliser that ensured a nervy finish for both sides.

The closing stages saw both teams push for a winner, but neither could find the decisive breakthrough. In the end, a draw was probably a fair reflection of a hard-fought encounter between two teams battling to secure their Division 2 status.

Match Verdict

A game full of commitment, determination and defensive organisation. Neither side deserved to lose, but both will feel there was an opportunity to claim all three points. The result keeps the relegation battle finely balanced heading into the remaining fixtures.

Tipperary Cup Final Friday 29th May 2026 Cahir Park
Bansha Celtic 0 – 2 Peake Villa (After Extra Time)

The biggest occasion in the Tipperary Southern & District League calendar lived up to expectations as Premier Division champions Peake Villa overcame a courageous Bansha Celtic side after extra time to lift the Tipperary Cup.

Coming into the final, many expected Peake Villa’s superior league status and experience to prove decisive. However, Bansha Celtic arrived with a game plan and executed it brilliantly for long periods, frustrating one of the strongest teams in Tipperary football.

From the opening whistle, Peake Villa controlled possession and looked to dictate the tempo. Keith Cahill was at the heart of almost everything positive for Villa, constantly probing and creating opportunities, while Mike Ryan worked tirelessly in midfield to keep the pressure on Bansha.

Yet Bansha were magnificent defensively. Goalkeeper Kelvin O’Brien produced several outstanding saves and was brilliantly protected by Kevin Mullins, David Harold Barry and the rest of a back line that simply refused to buckle.

The first half saw Peake create the better chances. A dangerous effort from the right-hand side forced O’Brien into a superb save, while David Harold Barry produced one of the tackles of the season to deny what looked a certain goal.

At the other end, Bansha remained a threat from set pieces. Kevin Mullins came agonisingly close with a header that drifted just over the crossbar, while Evan McCormack also threatened from dead-ball situations.

The midfield battle was fascinating. Tony Egan, Eoin Halpin and Shane Power worked relentlessly against a fast-moving and technically gifted Peake midfield. Every inch of ground had to be earned and neither side gave anything away cheaply.

As the second half progressed, Peake continued to dominate possession but found themselves repeatedly frustrated by Bansha’s defensive resilience. The First Division side defended with tremendous organisation and discipline, limiting clear-cut opportunities despite long periods without the ball.

After 90 minutes the score remained 0-0 and penalties appeared inevitable.

However, five minutes into extra time came the breakthrough. A perfectly delivered corner from Keith Cahill found Ronan McGuire, who rose highest in the box and powered a header into the net to send the Peake supporters into celebration.

Bansha responded with tremendous courage. They pushed numbers forward and chased an equaliser with everything they had. The effort and belief shown by the underdogs was admirable, but Peake’s defence stood firm under increasing pressure.

Then, in the dying moments, Peake Villa finally sealed victory. Darragh Byrne, who had been exceptional throughout the match from right-back, surged forward and calmly finished after a loose ball fell kindly to him in the area. The goal ended the contest and confirmed Peake Villa as Tipperary Cup champions.

Star Performers from Peake Villa

  • Ronan McGuire – Scored the breakthrough goal when it mattered most.

  • Kevin Mullins – Led from the front and defended superbly.
  • David Harold Barry – Outstanding defensive display and a crucial goal-saving tackle.

What This Means

For Bansha Celtic, defeat will hurt, but this performance may ultimately strengthen belief within the club. They demonstrated that they can compete with the very best teams in the county. The blend of youth and experience assembled by Johnny Halpin and Johnny Kennedy continues to develop, and their promotion playoff against Wilderness Rovers now becomes a huge opportunity.

The progress of Bansha’s youth structure is increasingly visible, with local players stepping into junior football and performing on the biggest stage available.

For Peake Villa, this victory completes another remarkable chapter. Under the guidance of Derek Loughnane, they have added the Tipperary Cup to their Premier Division title and are rapidly becoming the benchmark for success in Tipperary football. Their strong underage system continues to produce quality players and the future looks exceptionally bright.

Match Verdict

A superb cup final that showcased everything good about junior football. Peake Villa deserved the victory based on possession and chances created, but Bansha Celtic earned enormous respect with a courageous, disciplined and highly organised display. For 95 minutes they looked capable of causing a major upset. Ultimately, Peake’s quality, patience and experience shone through. A cup final worthy of the occasion and a fantastic advertisement for TSDL football.

Division 2 Relegation Round Robin Sunday 31st May 2026
Oldbridge 0 – 3 Mullinahone

Mullinahone produced one of their most important performances of the season as they travelled to Oldbridge and secured a commanding 3-0 victory that could prove vital in the battle to preserve their Division 2 status.

Knowing that points were essential, Mullinahone approached the game with purpose and intensity. They controlled large periods of the match and showed far greater urgency than their opponents from the opening stages.

The visitors took the lead after sustained pressure and never looked back. Their midfield controlled proceedings while the defence remained solid and disciplined whenever Oldbridge attempted to respond.

A second goal before the break gave Mullinahone breathing room and forced Oldbridge to chase the game. The hosts pushed forward in the second half but found it difficult to break down a determined Mullinahone side that looked organised in every department.

As Oldbridge committed more players forward, Mullinahone struck again to complete an impressive 3-0 victory and secure a massive three points in the relegation round robin.

Professional, disciplined and clinical. Mullinahone delivered exactly the type of performance required when the pressure is highest. The win significantly boosts their survival hopes, while Oldbridge now face a difficult challenge to recover in the remaining fixtures.
