Tipperary Cup final, Friday 16th May

The latest installment of the fierce rivalry between the two most celebrated teams in Tipperary junior football, continues this evening, when St Michael’s travel down to Clonmel where they will be warmly welcomed by a Clonmel Town team in chase of their first taste of silverware this season.

It promises to be an intriguing game, as while Town might wish the Saint’s the best of luck when they represent the league away from Tipperary, you can be sure that no quarter will be asked for nor given when the two sides meet and there is a cup at stake, especially Tipperary’s Premier Cup competition.

Although the league form has the Saint’s getting the better of Town twice this season, the Clonmel team have built on a good season last year, and finished second at season end, showing that after a few fallow years, they are on the way to renewing this most enduring of rivalries.

And with Michael’s hopefully on the way to winning Ireland’s premier junior competition next weekend, it would give the Clonmel club an added incentive to take the Saint’s scalp this weekend.

So for all lovers of junior football in the county, there is only one place to be tonight, and that is at the Complex at seven o clock, where a great night of football will be on display. It might be worth getting there a little early, because by kick off, there will no doubt be a bumper crowd awaiting these two footballing giants.
