Tipperary Youth Cup Division 2 Semi Final

Shanbally Utd 4-5 Galbally Utd

This cup tie started at a million miles an hour and it was Galbally who struck first inside the first minute when the ball fell to Tieran Ryan to finish from close range. After this the game settled and on 15 minutes Conor English got on the end of a Shanbally free kick to make it 1-1 from six yards. Within a minute however Galbally regained the lead when a long range shot from Tiernan Ryan wasn’t dealt with and crept into the corner of the net 1-2. On 35 minutes Shanbally equalised again when Jack Sullivan headed in a fine goal from a corner from 8 yards out 2-2. Just on the stroke of half time Shanbally failed to deal with the breaking ball from a corner and Cormac Ryan was on hand to stab home from three yards to put Galbally back in front.

The second half half started briskly like the first and Galbally scored a carbon copy of their third with Killian Peters on hand this time to poke the ball home on 47 minutes. Soon after Galbally looked to have seal the tie when a long ball up to Billy Ryan got him in behind the Shanbally backline to fire home from 12 yards.

However SHanbally came back again and on 60 minutes a long-range free kick from Sean Sullivan found the net to make it 3-5. The game settled into a bit of a stalemate after that but on 82 minutes good interplay between Keelan Williams and Conor English saw the later fire an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net to make it 4-5. This sent up a grandstand finish but despite a lot of possession Shanbally couldn’t carve out the chance to equalise.

Sunday April 27th

Division 1

Cullen Lattin 2-3 Powerstown

Powerstown travelled to Aisling Park Cullen early on Sunday morning.

With Cullen having the league wrapped up two weeks ago and Powerstown safe after last week’s results there was a friendly match atmosphere to the early exchanges.

Cullen could have gone one up on 15 minutes when Mike O’Brien was played in one-on-one by Alan Hayes but the Powerstown goalie Kieran Quirke was out quick and got a toe poke to the ball to send O’Brien into a wide area and allowed the Powerstown defenders to get back and clear the danger.

Powerstown went one up on 29 minutes when they turned over position and Darren Murphy finished well from the tightest of angles against Cullen’s stand in goalie Darren McGrath.

On 44mins Powerstown went 2-0 up when again another defensive mistake allowed Kevin Kirwan in to finish well.

Cullen came out in the second half playing a higher line trying to get back in the game, but a Cullen defender got caught in possession on 55 minutes and Powerstown’s Brendan Boland went through to finish well.

Cullen got back into it on 67 minutes when Danny O’Dwyer played in Mike O’Brien who finished well from a tight angle.

Aaron Hannigan then tried his luck from distance with Cullen’s keeper off his line, but his shot hit off the top of the crossbar and went out for a goal kick.

Cullens Danny O’Dwyer nearly got his second assist of the day when he played an excellent cross from the right but Tony O’Neill’s first-time volley was saved well by Kieran Quirke.

It was game on when Mike O’Brien got his second goal on 82 minutes for Cullen. 16 year old debutant George Maher played a great through ball and O’Brien withheld the challenge of the Powerstown centre back to finish well.

That was as good as it got however and Powerstown held on to claim the points.

Galbally 1-2 Wilderness Rovers

Wilderness continued their good run of form with another victory on Sunday last and probably wish the season was only starting after they secured three points away to Galbally.

Rovers were a goal in front after 12 minutes when Michael O’Hara played a great pass to free Joseph Cummins to fire the Wildies ahead and Barry O’Sullivan doubled their lead soon afterwards.

Galbally came more into the game after that and pulled a goal back before half time when Owen O’Sullivan did well to find Darren Sheedy who finished to the top corner.

However, despite pushing for an equaliser, Galbally were struggling to create any clear-cut chances and were finding the Wilderness difficult to break down. The closest they came was when Cathal O’Flynn tested the keeper and in the dying moments Darren Sheedy saw his header come back off the crossbar.

In the end, the Wilderness held strong to earn another three points on the road.

Division 2

SC&K Utd 6-1 St Nicholas

The home side final league game of the season. They started well and took the lead on 8 minutes when Shane Garland rifled a free kick from outside the box into the top corner of the net. Saints were level on 18 minutes when a well delivered free kick was met by the head of Sean Daly to level matters. The home side continued to dominate but found St Nicholas goalkeeper in inspired form.

The home side came out determined in the second half and retook the lead on 52 minutes when Nathan Dolan scored directly from a free kick.  Shane Garland extended the lead on 60 minutes before Nathan Dolan made it 4-1 from the spot. Gus Nolan finished well on 82 minutes for 5-1. Scoring was completed on 88 minutes when Corey O Brien coolly finished to wrap up a comfortable 6-1 result

St Michael’s 1-4 Old Bridge

Old Bridge won this relegation battle at the Complex with Dylan Guiry having a big say in the destination of the points. Old Bridge started well and took the lead on five mins after Timmy Dalton had saved from Emmett Fahey and the resultant corner saw  Luke O’Donnell head home from close range. Saints went close twice on 14 minutes from a Mickey Bowes cross but were back on parity on 19 minutes when Jamie Malone was on hand to convert a cross from the right wing. That was as good as it got for Saints as they never got going after that and they never played with any pattern or base. The day got better.for Old Bridge when Dylan Guiry held off a defender to make it 2-1 on 24 minutes. They missed a good chance on 38 minutes when Garrett found Guiry who was slightly unbalanced and shot wide.

Old Bridge sealed the deal on 68 minutes when Guiry was on hand at the far post to make it 3-1. They had other chances to increase their lead in the second half and even though Saints used their bench they never looked like getting back on track and Guiry made it 4-1 on 80 minutes. Tempers frayed late on and resulted in Matty Moroney and Darren Lowry receiving red cards to compound a bad day for the Saints

Division 3

Kilsheelan Utd 1-7 Clonmel Celtic

Kilsheelan reserves finished their first season back in the TSDL with the visit of Clonmel Celtic FC ‘B’ to Ballypatrick.

The visitors took a two-nil lead into half-time thanks to goals from Dylan Kiely and Cillian Fitzgerald, before Jack Aylward made it 3-0 on the hour mark.

Kiely and Fitzgerald took control of the second-half, as both secured their hat-trick, whilst Kilsheelan’s Evan Forristal fired home his tenth goal of the season in between Celtic’s goals, as the away side saw out the game comfortably.

Dualla v Rosegreen

Tipp Town 4-0 Killenaule

Tipp Town B played their final home league game and produced a strong performance to see off Killenaule.

Tipp had a few half-chances with Mark Ellard and Timmy Esmonde coming close. They eventually took the lead when a perfectly timed pass by Alan Carter found the feet of Aaron Hickey who tucked in from close range to make it 1-0.

Mark Doyle came close for Killenuale but his free kick was well saved by Marcus Godfrey. Tipp added the sucker punch just before half time, Alan Carter again with a sublime through ball to Tipp’s top scorer Mark Ellard who ran 50 yards to make it 2-0.

In the second half, Killenaule’s Kevin Lawlor and Mark Doyle came close again from distance and Town’s Evan Ryan and Kevin Doyle came close for the home side.

However, the all-important third goal went the way of the home side when a superb ball by Tipp captain Mark Browne found Kevin Doyle who made no mistake.

Doyle then got a fourth when his mazy run took him around the keeper before finding the net to wrap up the scoring.
